There’s nothing like an incredible landscape scene bathed in clouds to create some majesty and moodiness in an image. The Grand Teton mountains are such a force in the landscape. With the tallest peak at 13,775 feet, they seem to jut from the valley floor into the sky effortlessly. This is especially evident from the eastern view.
So often we landscape photographers shoot a wide, big scene. We want to include all the elements that make the scene breathtaking just as our eyes have taken it all in. But, sometimes getting in close gives us the details and atmosphere that we see and feel while viewing the scene.
Lens choice makes a difference as well. Look at the ratio of the cabin with the Grand peak. In the first image, it doesn’t seem that small. But in the perspective of the last image we begin to see the cabin as a more realistic size in relation to the mountains. Had I stepped farther away, the cabin would have seemed smaller and smaller against those tall majestic mountains.
