Cookies and Holiday Trees

It's that time of year when our days are filled with gifts and goodwill, cards and holiday activities, cookies and holiday trees. I try not to bake too many sweets on a regular basis.  But during the holiday season, all bets are off!

One of our family favorites are (what I call) Snowball cookies. I'm sure you've had them, or at least seen them. They have many different names and probably a few different little modifications. But, snowball cookies they are in our house. And, I put walnuts in them even though the recipe I use calls for pecans.

I wanted to photograph them in a festive manner, so I added a few mini ornaments, some small packages, a snowflake lantern, and some really cute tree garland in the background. Once I had all the elements gathered, I began shooting from different angles and rearranged the items as I went along. I love how the cookies and trees compliment each other.

I usually photograph my subjects with natural light. One critical mistake I made with the first few frames is that I neglected to turn of the kitchen light. Ugh! Mixed lighting is the worst! It's so difficult to correct in post. So I ended up reshooting those first few frames.
