Lilac Blooms | northern California photographer

If it's April in northern California, it is the season for lilacs. Their old fashioned charm and delicate blooms are eye-catching. And their fragrance! Oh, I wish you could smell these photos. Although I don't have any lilacs growing in my yard for now, I'm hoping that will change soon. While picking these lilac blossoms from my neighbor's yard, I added a few new-growth stems to start a few lilac bushes of my own. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 'new growth hormone' I purchased from the nursery does its job with the new stems and roots will appear soon. Then it will be time to decide where in the yard they will live. If only the season and their blooms lasted a bit longer.

“Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart; I breathe at this hour the fragrance of the lilacs, the violets, and the roses, as at twenty years ago. The smell of lilacs crept poignantly into the room like a remembered spring. A faint smell of lilac filled the air.” ~ Victor Hugo
