Lupine Super-Bloom | Northern California landscape

Spring in northern California is the season for wildflowers. Much like many other areas, the bloom can vary from year to year depending on the conditions. This year the conditions seem to be perfect for a most spectacular lupine super-bloom in Northern California as well as other wild flowers. From broad landscapes to more intimate frames, the opportunities are abundant for enjoying these beautiful fields of flowers. I was fortunate to explore this beautiful area on a mildly overcast morning.

The flowers alone are sufficient for capturing interesting frames. But, there seems to be temptation for photographing people (sometimes ourselves) among  the flowers. Environmental portraits embrace the beauty of the location while capturing people in these lovely natural scenes. This sounds like a win-win unless the environment is damaged. We can sometimes be swept up in the moment of the beautiful landscape. We proceed into the scene without paying attention to protecting the very essence of the area that attracted us.

Protecting the Environment

While taking environmental portraits, or even simply photographing the beauty of the location itself, I encourage you all to take into consideration the principles of Nature First and Leave No Trace. Be aware. Would someone visiting after you know that you'd been there? The titles of these organizations explain quite clearly the simple guidelines we should follow.
