Still Life Garden

Often my days begin in the garden with watering, weed pulling, filling the bird feeders, and generally enjoying the sights and sounds of the morning. The flower garden has become somewhat of a still life garden full of possibilities for photography subjects. I suppose that is true of the vegetable garden as well.I often use some of the blossoms from the still life garden as accents within the still life images I'm creating. But, on mornings such as this one, the light was so perfect, I had to run back inside for my camera and document it. The flowers were gorgeous and despite the extreme heat of the last month, seemed to be thriving. The hummingbirds darted and chirped while vying for a place at the feeders. There was an abundance of activity, yet it was so incredibly peaceful.

In past years, I simply purchased seedlings from the garden shop. Most of those are low growing, bedding plants that have short stems. But this year I purchased seeds from Floret Flowers and started my own taller varieties. orange flowers in the garden still lifezinnias and dahlias in the flower garden still life To support the feeling of the peaceful morning in these images, I applied my 'Gently' preset first and adjusted from there.
