Cannon Beach, Oregon | northern California photographer

Recently I spent a week on the Oregon coast for a workshop on photographing seascapes. I jumped at the chance to attend this workshop presented by Candace Dyer and Hillary Younger. I had arrived a day early just to soak up some of that delightful Oregon coast before our workshop actually got started. And, I must say, I was not disappointed. On my first evening there I explored Cannon Beach and experienced a very foggy view.  I first saw images of this area a few years ago. But I knew immediately that it would be a place I would definitely visit. It just fascinated me.

I confess, I was a little disappointed in the fog when I arrived. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE fog. But, this was not quite what I had in mind.  I walked around a bit, took a few photos, and then headed back to the town where we were staying to enjoy some very yummy clam chowder.

Cannon Beach Fog

Cannon Beach FogSeveral days later, Cannon Beach was the destination for a shoot during our workshop. However, this time we arrived in the morning.  As in the dark of morning. After a drive and a walk down to the beach, my first image was taken at 5:02 am. Landscape photography is not for anyone who likes to sleep in, I'm thinking. Fortunately for me, I'm a morning person. That ever-changing light made for some beautiful views!
