Long Exposure on the Beach | fine art landscape photographer

What better place to play with long exposure images than on the beach? Setting your camera up for long exposures smooths out the waves a bit and reveals the motion-pattern of the water. If there are clouds present, they are softened as well.

Mid-day Shooting

I don't recommend the middle of the day for this type of photography, but sometimes that's what we have. When my friend and I decided to go out in the mid-afternoon, these are the images that resulted. I put the ten-stop filter over my camera lens and worked to get the right shutter speed to reveal the direction of the water, yet soften the waves.

Just Go Shoot

I personally think anytime at the beach is a good time to shoot! There are challenges.  But there are also tools and ways around those challenges. Don't let those sunny mid-afternoons scare you. Just go shoot!

“The camera makes you forget you’re there. It’s not like you are hiding but you forget, you are just looking so much.”
