My visit to the Columbia River Gorge a few years ago.
On This Memorial Day - A Look Back | northern California photographer
Every year, as May draws to a close and summer unofficially begins, Americans across the country take pause on Memorial Day.
Arlington 24-7-365 | northern California photographer
I found the grounds of Arlington, the headstones, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to all be beyond my expectations. Watching the Honor Guard sentinels and the changing of the guards, knowing this occurs 24-7-365, is sort of hard to wrap my head around.

Cemetery on the Coast | Sacramento Fine Art Photographer
Toward the top of the rolling hills near the coast, my friend and I discovered yet another cemetery that had been part of the community for a very long time. While the sun was shining maybe a bit too strongly and the breeze was blowing just perfectly, I felt such peace in this lovely location. The headstones in the cemetery were modest although there was plenty of evidence of love and remembrance. Many of the headstones were handmade/carved; some were painted, some were not. I don't usually convert my images, but this set seemed to tell the story best in black and white.
