Visiting Columbia River Gorge {northern California Landscape Photographer}

The following is a blog post I wrote a few years ago after my first visit to the Columbia River Gorge. I’ve since visited this area several times and always find it to be beautiful and so inviting. In fact, I’m in the process of planning another trip there soon. In the meantime, I’ll cling to the memories of previous visits.

Visiting Columbia River Gorge

In April 2016, I had the opportunity and privilege of exploring the Columbia River Gorge landscape. My plan is to return to that area this October to capture some of the gorgeous fall color. Those plans may need to change. The states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and many other areas are being attacked by wildfires (Oregon Live). Here is a look back of my brief visit to the area over a year ago.

April 2016

It was all about rivers and waterfalls during week 17 of 2016.  While attending a portrait workshop in the Pacific Northwest, I managed to meet up with some other landscape photographer friends to photograph the beautiful surroundings of the Columbia River Gorge.  Fortunately, southern Washington and northern Oregon have received plenty of rainfall this season (unlike last year).  The rivers were full and the waterfalls were really putting on a show!  Everything was unbelievably green!  I've never seen so much bright, yellow-green everywhere!As always, landscape photographers are dependent on the natural light nature provides at the moment.  The weather wasn't completely working in our favor as we had quite a few clouds and some sprinkles along the way.  But that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the diverse, majestic area.  (See what I did right there?!)  It is definitely one of those areas to which I could return over and over again, and never really capture it all.  Needless to say, I cannot wait to go back to really spend some time exploring and photographing the area again.  There are so many locations that I did not have a chance to get to.
