Learn Photography

So, you bought a nice camera, or it was given to you. You keep it on auto because, hey, it's a nice camera. It should be able to expose the image properly resulting in an incredible image, right? So. Very. Wrong. There is so much more. To learn photography, there are a number of things to know. And keeping your camera on auto is not one of them.I know many of you use your phone to take photos. And there is a time and place for that. But if you travel somewhere awesome and you want to have a nice photo of this amazing place on your wall, a cell phone picture will not do.You'll want plenty of pixels, correct exposure, beautifully composed and tack sharp. You'll want to shoot with a dslr on manual. The difference is worth it!Here's an example of an image taken on auto and again on manual. See the difference? In auto, you cannot even see the subject's face.Auto  /  Manualauto exposure vs. manual exposure same subject Autohistogram auto exposure vs. manual exposure      Manualhistogram auto exposure vs. manual exposure same subject      You can see the histograms are different even though the scene was the same.  In auto, the camera exposed for the entire scene. While in manual, I exposed for the subject.(I don't recommend a shutter speed of 1/4, but the camera was on a tripod and the subject was perfectly still.)I have written a small manual for getting that camera off auto and on to manual. It's a summary of the foundations you need to know to learn photography. You can conveniently learn more about it and purchase it from Book Patch through the link below.
