Getting out early in the morning to photograph a location always entails arriving there long before I want to shoot. It takes time to set up gear and find the compositions that are most appealing to me before the sun rises. So, I always come away with night landscapes in addition to my intended subject. I like to take a few (okay, quite a few) 'practice' images before the light appears in order to capture what I went for.In the first image, my intention was in fact to photograph the Milky Way. It's the end of the season for the best images of the MW given the tilt of our Earth. But it's always engaging to capture those distant stars. My bonuses for this one are the shooting stars and that amazing aurora.With the subsequent images, the stars begin to fade as the sun rises changing night into day. And, finally, that gorgeous alpen glow lights the tops of the Grand Tetons. As you can see, my position and camera angle are adjusted a bit in these.
