Feel inspired by growing your photography with a project!

The bench project was my very first photography project. This project was prompted by the desire for a subject that could be ongoing and wasn't necessarily dependent on location, time of day, nor season.  It also did not require the cooperation of others nor the coordinating of availability of a model which is very freeing.By having a theme or particular topic, I was able to zero in on my subject. Having a theme helped me focus and not feel overwhelmed about all the possibilities I could photograph. It caused me to be more purposeful and plan what I was going to photograph. Yet, it also provided me with a bit of a scavenger hunt mentality when we were out just walking around and exploring the city. It was perfect for a new photographer like I was at the time.So here are a few of the benches I photographed to include in my bench photography project. seating at the train station photography projectin the rose gardenlone bench in the parkwooden bench and concrete table at the lakeearly morning seating in the park, bench photography projectlakeside bench photography projectbench project subject on a university campusbench photography project near the Trinity Rivercontemporary bench near office buildingsbench photography projects Santa Fe, NMbench on the coast of Cambria, CA, photography projects

Timeless

Over time, I have added to this particular still life subject matter. This photography project continues to push me to photograph a bench with a new perspective, or in a new way. Just when I think I cannot come up with anything different, by pushing myself, I consider different lenses, perspectives, and environments.

Are you stuck?

If you are stuck with your photography and not feeling particularly motivated, a themed project can really help you narrow your focus and provide inspiration. A photography project can be simple like choosing a particular color (my Purple project), or complex as in choosing a feeling to capture. The possibilities are truly endless.

A new project!

I'm just getting started with my current project: 'foods in summer'. Whatever you choose, have FUN with it. I'd love to hear your ideas. What are you considering for a photography project?Happy shooting!
