Smokey | northern California

It's not fog. It's smoke. Eleven days after the Camp Fire broke out, northern California is still covered in smoke. Not as much as a few days ago, but still hazardous. Many people are wisely wearing their masks. Many are not. With so much destruction, loss of homes, loss of businesses, loss of jobs, loss of life, a mask seems like a trivial thing. But, it's not. It's still incredibly smokey. Within that smoke hides countless particles that are toxic to all, with some causing a fungus within the lungs and possibly worse. Protect your lungs; protect your health as best you can. Wear the mask. It's still smokey outside.Okay, I'm done with the lecture.... er... the encouragement to wear your mask.I ventured out yesterday (with my mask) to the Sutter Bypass and then drove to UC Davis. It's a fair distance and it was all covered in smoke. There weren't many people out (good!) and it was eerily quiet. I wonder how all the animals will do being exposed with all the smoke for so long.

Maybe consider adopting a family this holiday season. I don't have any first hand information about this program, but it seems like a worthwhile effort.  Paradise Fire Adopt a Family is pairing up families who have lost their home with sponsors who want to help. Check it out.  Because we all could use a little reprieve from the smoke, fall fruit.persimmons offer a break from the smoke of the Camp Firepomegranates offer a break from the smoke of the Camp Fire
