Visiting the Town of Mendocino in northern California
When first visiting the little northern California town of Mendocino, one gets the feeling that there is something just a little bit different and special about this community. The buildings are old, but well kept. Some people say it reminds them of an old east coast village yet with a personality all its own. It's a perfect place to take a leisurely walk, peer into the windows of the shops, and visit the variety of restaurants there. It's also the perfect place to view the rocky cliffs or walk along the sandy beaches of northern California. Your senses are not bombarded with commercial hooks to pull you in, but rather a quaint invitation to explore and enjoy.
Around Town
It's an artists' community as well with galleries, crafts, and theater. Mendocino also hosts a music festival every summer. There seems to be something for everyone whether they are seeking a few days of relaxation at one of the many B&Bs, are interested in the arts, or want enjoy the crisp air of the coast.
Not Far Away
Not far from town is the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden. This is definitely a favorite place I enjoy browsing around and observing all the beautiful plants, trees, and flowers that occupy the Gardens. If hiking is more your thing, Van Damme State Park, Mendocino Headlands, and Russian Gulch State Park are wonderful nearby places to explore and take in nature.

If you are looking for big chain stores, hotels, or food franchises, Mendocino is not for you. But, if you are looking for a quiet, quaint, relaxed getaway, this is the place.
