Photography Tour, Workshop, or Retreat? What’s the difference?

Are you a little confused about the different kinds of photography tours, workshops, or retreats? What’s the difference? Let me shed a little light on those options.

Photography Tour

A photography tour is usually designed to take you to captivating locations that promise stunning landscapes, vibrant cultures, wildlife locations, and hidden gems. They are led by experienced tour guides, possibly even a photographer, and offer you the chance to capture magical moments while receiving expert guidance regarding location. From bustling cityscapes to tranquil natural wonders, each destination will provide an opportunity to build your portfolio.

Photography Workshop

A photography workshop is designed for both beginners and intermediate photographers seeking a focused learning experience. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in a supportive environment, where knowledgeable instructors cover topics such as camera settings, post-processing techniques, and storytelling through images. A workshop should include opportunities to shoot-and-share whether that is in-person or remotely (such as my still life workshop), instruction, group discussions, and personalized feedback to sharpen your technical abilities and foster your artistic vision. In-person tours and workshops often go hand-in-hand.

Photography Retreat

Located in beautiful locales, this immersive experience combines the best elements of a tour, a workshop, and a rejuvenating vacation. Unburden your mind, reconnect with nature, and allow your creativity to flourish. Instructors will guide you on locations and photographic techniques while offering wellness activities to enhance your overall well-being. From sunrise shoots in picturesque locations to sunset locales equally inspiring, a photography retreat should be a unique blend of photography practice/education and self-care.

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.

Waterfalls & More Photography Workshop/Retreat

During my Waterfalls & More Photography Workshop/Retreat, I will lead you to various locations and guide you on possible compositions… if you wish. If you are confident in your skills and just want to interact with like-minded people, that works, too!

The retreat part of this workshop is due to the beautiful inn in which we stay. Our innkeeper serves a hearty, tasty breakfast each morning and accommodates our every need. We eat our evening meals out at one of the local restaurants, or return to the inn for one of the delicious meals our innkeeper serves. She is an amazing chef! It is so nice to have the inn to ourselves.

A massuese is available by appointment if you wish to include that in your stay. This is at your own expense and our innkeeper will arrange it for you.

Work on your photography, build your portfolio, and be well taken care of. Yes, please! Treat yourself!

Registration opens on June 1, 2024. Space is limited, so don’t delay. Click the link below for more information.
