White Faced Ibis

With the changing seasons, birds will be migrating through the Pacific Flyway here in Northern California soon. There are some waterfowl who hang around all year and feed in the flooded rice fields. Once such species is the white faced ibis. While taking a wildlife photography class last summer, I searched and searched for these birds. I knew there was a flock that had been hanging around and I was intent on photographing them. Whenever I did happen to see them, they were in flight, and not toward me! Then one morning when I wasn't even searching for them, there they were just off the road. Lucky me.From a distance they look rather plainly colored - dark brown or even black. They do stand out a bit because of their curved beaks and long legs. Let the sun shine just right on them, and a rainbow of organic, earthy tones appear.
