The Nature of Garden Planning
Until the ground is ready for planting, I'll be spending more time perusing my gardening books, pursuing my garden planning, and clearing the weeds from the garden patch. My long-time standby is the Western Sunset Gardening Book. It's full of information about just about anything related to gardening. Perhaps my new favorite is Floret Farm's Cut Flower Gardenby Erin Benzakein. But, of course, I cannot leave out Growing Heirloom Flowers by Chris McLaughlin, photographs by Nadeen Flynn.
Enjoying the Garden
Gardening used to be one of my favorite pastimes. But given different life events in the past, I haven't spent much time in the garden, until two years ago when I had the opportunity to plant a cutting garden along side our vegetable garden. It was somewhat of a last minute decision, but I loved it!
Each year since then, I've enjoyed planning, planting, caring for, and cutting flowers and vegetables from my gardens. Can you relate? Not only do I enjoy the gardens because of what they produce aesthetically and for food, but they provide fantastic subjects for my still life photography work both in the garden and cut.
Time to Plant
By now, I would have normally had a few new things in the ground. And, depending on where you live, it may not be planting time yet. But, fortunately, we've had a lot of much needed rain this spring so I'm being patient with Mother Nature. I'll be ready when she is.
Are you a gardener, either vegetable or flower or fruit? What are your favorites to grow? What are your favorites to photograph?
"Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!"
