Have you discovered the alarming diversity of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens?

The first time I visited the botanical gardens a few years ago in Mendocino, it was in January. Many things were dormant and the weather was cold, windy, a bit rainy, and pretty much not a great time to visit. Although it was a fun day with friends, I came away with a 'meh' attitude toward these gardens. Fast forward a few years and a few more visits, I have a totally different attitude now. Have you discovered the alarming diversity of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens? Make a plan to get that on your calendar - except I cannot recommend a cold, windy, rainy winter day. There will be treasures to be found for sure, but there will be more if you select a different time.

Summertime on the Mendocino Coast

These images are from a trip during a somewhat foggy summer day when the dahlias were in full display, along with so many other species. There are numerous pathways throughout the gardens, each one feeling like they might be the one to lead to the most engaging area. Don't you love this garden gate made from branches? It seems so fitting for an entryway to one of the many sections of the gardens.
