Rockaway Sunset | northern California photographer

By now I'm thinking you must be pretty familiar with Rockaway Beach.  It was the subject of several of our shoots during our workshop with Hillary Younger and Candace Dyar. But I may have saved the best of that beach for last. Rockaway Sunset was like no other on this trip. The beach landscape didn't have a lot of stacks nor formations to latch on to for subject matter. But what it did have was an incredible swirling stream of water leading out to a most colorful sky of changing natural light. This was the perfect time to work on long exposures to smooth everything out. Or, as in my last image, speed up that shutter and capture the texture in the flowing water. Whichever is your preference, it was an evening sunset to remember!

Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.
