I find such peace and pleasure exploring cemeteries, reading the headstones. But, I haven't photographed in a cemetery in awhile. I think it's about time. Who wants to join me?

Toward the top of the rolling hills near the coast, my friend and I discovered yet another cemetery that had been part of the community for a very long time. While the sun was shining maybe a bit too strongly and the breeze was blowing just perfectly, I felt such peace in this lovely location. The headstones in the cemetery were modest although there was plenty of evidence of love and remembrance. Many of the headstones were handmade/carved; some were painted, some were not. I don't usually convert my images, but this set seemed to tell the story best in black and white.

The message on this headstone spoke to me, and I believe it to be true.

The cross had broken off the headstone and lay nearby.
Many times when we explore these old cemeteries, we see vandalism. I don't believe that's the case here. The cross on this headstone had broken off the top, I'm assuming because of age and deterioration. I hope the cross remains there where it fell until it can be repaired.
