Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park

In the summer of 2022, I embraced an adventure unlike any other I’d ever been on. I boarded a small (10 people total) vintage boat, the DavidB built in 1929, to explore Glacier Bay, Alaska. It was a photographer’s trip/workshop with a knowledgeable photographer leading the workshop who offered suggestions for photographing Glacier Bay National Park and in-depth editing techniques. Our captain and co-captain were knowledgeable of the area and had many stories and facts to share making the trip such a delightful experience. This is a combination of the last few days on our trip. You can read and see photos about the first few days in the linked blog posts below.

The David B is piloted by Jeffrey and Christine of Northwest Navigation Co. who partnered with Matt Meisenheimer Photography of Backcountry Journeys to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for photographers or, really, for anyone. In this ‘beach’ area we were able to explore on foot, walking through the pieces of glacial ice that had broken away from the Lamplugh Glacier. It was amazing to walk among the giant blocks of ice that often looked like beautiful pieces of tinted glass.
