Getting to Know Me
It’s always a pleasure to share my work and my journey as a photographer with those who are interested. So when Ashley of Shoutout Colorado asked to do just that, I had to say yes. She asked some thought provoking questions which I love! It makes me evaluate my journey, and gives me a great reason to search through my archives looking at my work. This always prompts thoughts of, “Wow, my work has really changed.” It’s nice to see some progression. Hopefully, that translates as growth.
What started as a hobby became a business through lots of encouragement and positive feedback…

Nature’s Elixir
What the article doesn’t talk about is how my love for the ocean developed into my love for forests and mountains, too, as a result of traveling because of photography. Photography has opened so many doors for me to people, places, things, and so much more. I am very grateful for that.
I hope you have some time to spend in nature. We live in an amazing, beautiful world!
Join Amy Ames Photography and me for a workshop/retreat in the beautiful Northern California Redwoods this May. For all the details, go to Adventure in Redwood National Park.

The calm of feeling unattached to the sense of self while so absorbed in the work becomes a creator's persona. I am not aware of myself nor my surroundings when I am immersed in the frame I am laboring over. I mentally disappear into Still Life photography.
A few years ago on a road trip north, I managed to stop to photograph the Milky Way and a few waterfalls. I was on my way to attend a workshop in the Mount Rainier National Park in Washington. Despite there being so little rain and snow in northern California the previous winter, the waterfalls did not disappoint. And, the Milky Way, well, it's always awesome!
I can help you with photographing your intended subject, teach you a few editing skills, and/or help you pull a portfolio together. To learn more about my photography mentoring, go to my page on Personalized Mentoring. Take a look and then contact me with your questions. As a trained educator with years of experience, I'm sure I can help you with your photography.
Where ever we go in nature, there are photography subjects everywhere. Some are grand landscapes, while others might be tiny macro subjects. The redwood forests of Northern California are bursting with opportunities for both of these and everything in between. Join experienced workshop mentors Nadeen Flynn Photography and Amy Ames Photography for this amazing adventure!
Finding the pretty in your everyday can seem a bit daunting. But, it's there if you look. I can see it especially well when I'm looking at the light. And, that's really what photography is about. Light. These photos of my kitchen sink window view were shot using back light.
Today is the day YOU can register for my workshop to learn to photograph still life. We will cover all the basics of still life photography so that you will feel comfortable going forward with creating your own.
In my Life Exposed online still life photography workshop, you'll learn how I approach lighting, staging, and editing still life images. We'll work on created still life subjects, and we'll explore different local areas to FIND suitable subjects. I'm not teaching you MY style. I'm teaching you the foundations so that you can apply them to your own style. And, we'll have some fun along the way.

The beauty of the mountains and forests is so inspiring and such a good environment in which to just get away. That's why I'm presenting a waterfalls workshop in Northern California this fall so that we can spend time capturing waterfalls while photographing them to our heart's content.

Last October, I held my annual one-day Waterfalls Workshop in Northern California. It’s a day of photographing waterfalls, learning techniques, meeting new friends, and enjoying just being in the mountains. It’s a gorgeous time of year with the color change. Several of the workshop members decided to stay to photograph and enjoy the area for another day. Thinking this was a fabulous idea, I decided to stay as well to enjoy the autumn views in nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Taking some time to look through my blog posts (because I’m so far behind, I couldn’t remember what I’d blogged about!), I realized I never posted about the autumn Waterfalls Workshop!
Let me tell you, it was fantastic! The colors were amazing! The water was flowing! And, we had a fantastic group women attending the one-day Waterfalls Workshop in October. But, shame on me for not blogging about it until now.
The first one-day Waterfalls Workshop in Northern California was presented by Nadeen Flynn Photography in March 2022. Many topics of landscape photography were presented including composition, use of a polarizer and filters, camera settings, and desired outcomes. Plan to join in the next Waterfalls Workshop in Northern California this fall, October 22, 2022, when the leaves will be putting on their autumn show.
Pairing my love of photography with my love of teaching, I decided to present a waterfall workshop in the mountains of Northern California. You will learn how to create images of your liking with just the right amount of movement in the water. Sharp splashes or smooth blur, whatever appeals to you.
