Capturing June: A Look Back Through my Lens
June came and went in a whirlwind, but not without leaving behind quiet stories, unexpected beauty, and fleeting moments that deserved to be paused. As I search through the images captured in June, I can appreciate all that the month held for me including photographing locally, mentoring sessions, and trips to the Mono Lake area, Yosemite NP, and Redwoods NP. It was a BIG month and I’m still not quite finished with all the editing. Although I didn’t get out to shoot daily nor as often as I like, it was still a rich month for photography.
June has always been a month of transition. Here in Northern California, we are in full summer weather and activities. Trees and flowers are really showing off. People linger longer outside since the day are longer and vacation time is here. There’s a sense of something beginning, though it hasn’t fully arrived yet. There’s a clear sense of the world waking up and yet getting ready to relax at the same time.
Photography has a way of anchoring time, giving us something to return to long after the feeling has passed. Looking at these images now, I’m reminded of how important it is to slow down and notice everything in my surroundings. To capture, not just what we see, but what we feel, and to appreciate all that is around us.
