Little Foxes | Northern California Fine Art Photography

Foxes are fascinating and elusive creatures. So when a friend said she knew the location of some foxes and suggested we go photograph them, I was all in! We combined this trip with photographing the rushing grebes (my previous post). It was a great couple of days photographing these elusive little foxes and entertaining grebes.

Characteristics of Foxes

Foxes are known for their cunning nature and bushy tails. These intelligent mammals are often associated with folklore and symbolism in various cultures around the world. Foxes are typically small to medium-sized mammals with a distinctive pointed muzzle, triangular ears, and a long, bushy tail. Their fur color can vary from red and gray to black and white, depending on the species. Foxes have keen senses, including excellent hearing and a strong sense of smell, which help them hunt prey and navigate their surroundings. They are also skilled at adapting to different environments, from forests and grasslands to urban areas.

Foxes are versatile animals that thrive in a variety of environments, including forests, grasslands, and urban areas. They are known to den in burrows underground or in hollow trees, where they raise their young and seek shelter from predators.

Foxes are skilled hunters that use a combination of stealth, speed, and cunning to catch their prey. They are known to patiently stalk their target before pouncing with lightning speed. Some species of foxes even use their bushy tails to help them balance while hunting.

Going Back for the Kits

As much fun as we had photographing these cunning creatures, we cannot wait to go back to photograph them with their kits (offspring) in a couple of months.
