Wildlife at Point Reyes National Seashore

Point Reyes National Seashore boasts a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna, thanks to its unique blend of habitats ranging from lush forests to windswept beaches. Visitors can spot a variety of wildlife, from elusive tule elk to playful river otters. Keep an eye out for the amazing bobcats, coyotes, and badgers along with other wildlife living among the wildflowers blooming along the trails.

On this trip, it was primarily the wildlife that we were after, especially the bobcats. But, that didn’t stop us from photographing the many other animals that live there. We were fortunate to photograph Great Horned Owls/owlets, coyote, river otters, egrets, California Quail, and elk (during rut).

Just a kitten, she climbed to the top of the post for a better view while hunting.

Nature is Amazing

Bugling bull in golden morning light.

Early morning in the fog. Check out the dry weeds hanging from their antlers. Yep! That’s all part of the rut behavior for attracting the females. So handsome!

On a ridge in the late afternoon, this bull elk gave us the best views of himself while he directed the does to stay near him. Very grateful for long lenses!!!

One of the two owlets we saw. This one made short flights among the branches and called out to be fed.
