Aspens in Autumn Yellow | northern California landscape photographer
Autumn! Like many of you, it's my favorite time of year. After a warm summer (okay, HOT), the cooling temperatures are welcome. Crisp mornings and cool evenings with lovely, comfortable days. They're the best! But those changing colors are what I really look forward to in fall. I'm always amazed at the richness of the yellows, reds, and oranges with their varying tones. None are more beautiful than aspens showing off their intense yellow. A few years ago I managed to squeeze in a quick trip to the southeastern Sierra to view the color there. Having never visited that area before, I really didn't know what to expect. Although, I'd heard that it was a fantastic place for viewing aspens, fall color, and unique landscape. I was not disappointed.
A couple of years later, I photographed fall colors in the states of Washington, and later in Colorado. I just love the aspens' white trunks, sometimes curved, with the dark gray markings. They're the perfect backdrop for showing off those vibrant yellow colors.
These photos are a mixture of those trips. Not all images are of aspens, but I just couldn’t leave them out!
I haven’t decided where my fall colors trip will be this season, but I need to get it figured out soon! I’d love to hear any suggestions you have for fall photography locations. Just list them in the Comments. Thanks in advance!
“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty,
as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.”

Several years ago I spent time traveling America's Loneliest Highway to experience autumn color in Colorado. I just have to share some of these incredible views with you! I took a very long road trip to Colorado to see and shoot the fall color in October.

Surrounding oneself with nature is a sure way to renew, de-stress, and relax. That is exactly how I felt while visiting the beautiful coast and forests of the Northern California State Parks last summer. Because it is a bit remote in many areas, there is no cell coverage and no internet.
It’s time to say ' farewell, November ' and jump into December. So, it was nice to enjoy a quiet morning. When I got up to refill my coffee, I opened the blinds and saw the best thing ever! FOG!
A few years ago in my pursuit of fall colored leaves, I passed through Ashland, OR. Fortunately, I decided to stop and spend the night there. And, I'm so glad I did! The fall color change was in full swing in Ashland, and especially in Lithia Park.
If you are fortunate enough to live near an orchard of almond trees, you know what a treat it is when they have bursting blooms. Every winter we wait in anticipation of the blooming almond orchards. They have the softest color and are mildly fragrant. Now is that time, and the blooms do not last very long. It's been a hard winter with all the wind, but I found a day recently to photograph these beautiful trees.
Pairing my love of photography with my love of teaching, I decided to present a waterfall workshop in the mountains of Northern California. You will learn how to create images of your liking with just the right amount of movement in the water. Sharp splashes or smooth blur, whatever appeals to you.

The trees were full of yellow, orange, red, and every tone in-between. They were incredibly saturated and simply gorgeous.
A few years ago when my friends decided to head to Leavenworth, WA to catch autumn leaves in all their glorious color, I just couldn't say 'no'. And, I'm so glad I made the trip.
