Project 365, 2022 | Week 19

Week 19 of Project 365, 2022 included so many opportunities in nature photography. For some I needed to travel a bit, but others were right in my yard. I’ve dusted off my macro lens and worked intentionally with certain concepts in macro. Of course, flowers come to mind first. The intricacies of the flower blossoms just come to life with a macro lens.

While photographing in the garden, I found this little bee on a sweet-pea blossom. It appeared to be fast asleep and didn’t move a bit which made it much easier to photograph. Sleeping bees. I just learned that this was a thing last fall.

It’s planting season here now so the crop-dusters are all in the air doing their best to get the rice planted.

A visit to the lacey hydrangea bushes in my backyard resulted in the macro above. I loved the edge of the leaf as well as the tiny open blossom among all the others not yet ready to show off.

A trip to a small lake where the Mute Swans live was in order to try to photograph the babies that I’d hoped had hatched after observing the mating ritual (You can see my post about this at Love at the Lake) about a month prior. I didn’t see any of the cygnets on this visit, but isn’t the early morning light on her wings beautiful?

Back to the garden for another closeup of the fragrant sweet-pea blossoms. Now that the weather is turning warm, these won’t last long. I feel so very lucky that these volunteered this year. They sprouted from the sweet-peas that had gone to seed last year. Lucky me! I wonder if this says anything about my garden clean-up practices?

My dependable yellow yarrow plant puts on a show each year even though I neglect it terribly.

Finally, another visit to the little lake resulted in seeing the cygnets! They are maturing quickly and are such a pleasure to watch with such diligent parents to keep them in line!
