Project 365, 2022, Week 22

Welcome to Project 365, 2022, Week 22! This week included images from my yard including the rose-breasted grosbeak at the feeder using my Sigma 150-600mm lens and two images from the garden using the Lensbaby Sweet 35 with a 12mm extension tube.

Different Lenses, Different Purposes

These lenses are somewhat opposite from one another. The Sigma is a lens that allows me to zoom in on my subject. It was just what I needed in order to get a better ‘look’ at this bird. The image of the grosbeak was also cropped in so that the bird would really become the subject. I don’t love photographing birds at feeders, but this bird is very unusual in our area. So, a bird-feeder image is what I got of this special visitor.

The Lensbaby Sweet 35 is not really a macro lens. It’s a wide angle lens that achieves beautiful blur when ‘tilted’, until an extension tube is added. Then it becomes a macro lens in which I need to get really close to my subject. This combination was perfect for photographing flowers in the garden achieving some blur and zeroing in on those interesting details.

Northern California Redwood Forests

The balance of the week was spent in the northern coastal area of California. My Canon 24-105mm lens was perfect for photographing the gorgeous north coast. It allowed for some wide angle images as well as some closer, zoomed in landscape images. I really love this lens as a general ‘walk-around’ lens. It’s quite versatile.

This is the time of year that the rhododendrons are in bloom in the redwood forests. Exploring the Redwood National Park and various State Parks in the area filled our days from early morning until the end of the day. We were very lucky to have some wonderful weather including just enough fog to create some gorgeous forest images for Project 365, 2022, Week 22.

Fog in the forest… stopped me in my tracks.

Evening at Luffenholtz Beach

The golden light at sunset was not to be missed, brief but beautiful.

Battery Point Lighthouse

One last photo of the lighthouse in the fog before we headed home.

As you can see, it was a pretty amazing week. We weren’t really ready to leave the north coast, but vacations always come to an end whether we’re ready or not.

Get out there and enjoy this amazing world!
