Photographing Blackberries | Sacramento Still Life Photographer

I love this time of year in northern California for many reasons. But one big reason is because the farmers' markets are stuffed full of all the fresh, yummy produce you can imagine! Last week I totally went overboard and bought more than what I should have - blackberries, garlic, mint, peaches, strawberries, kohlrabi. I was thinking about all the tasty, fresh food we'd be eating. But, truth be told, I was also envisioning all the photo opportunities I'd have! If you are a still life photographer or food photographer, then you know what I mean when I say that grocery shopping takes on a whole other dimension. Everything is a potential still life subject. And, I mean everything! My husband knows now not to eat anything I buy or bake or cook before I photograph it. "Okay, we can eat the blackberries now because I'm finished shooting them." Sound familiar in your home?

I call this style of food photography ‘Food as Art’. It’s photography that does not show a recipe or plated food, but uses food as the subject. Although, I suppose berries could be an exception. Not much has to be done to them in order to enjoy eating them!

I'm including an editing video here. I started the edit in Lightroom and then went into Photoshop to correct an angle that I couldn't fix in LR.
